Last month the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released an alarming report that the world had less than twelve years to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees to avoid a catastrophic environmental breakdown. In the report climate scientists said urgent and unprecedented changes are needed to reach the target, which is affordable and feasible although it lies at the most ambitious end of the Paris agreement pledge to keep temperatures between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, experts in climate change at the Africities Summit said although efforts to fight the effects of climate change were well underway, collaborations should not be excluded. The Africities summit is currently under way in Marrakesh Morroco, North Africa. Channel Africa’s Ayanda Mkhwanazi is there.
