Because my mind is not conditioned to see racism as a single cause,  I cannot reasonably decide it’s racism.

Because I cannot know the minds of those humans dressed in cop uniforms or the situation, I cannot hold anyone completely responsible, yet I am sure that we are all responsible.

Because I see the nature of my own mind, I see that I could have been George Floyd, the cops, the observers, the peaceful protestors, the violent protestors.

Because I do not feel impoverished, I do not feel disparaged by others actions.

Because I don’t identify with black, white, or cop, I see that I am the black, white, and the cop all at once.

Because I see deeply into the nature of things, I know that George Floyd never came and therefore never left.

Because I see that these are all mind images, I dare not suffer from them because they are like trying to grasp an object in a mirage in one’s hand.

Because I know myself and others often take these mind images to be real, I feel saddened beyond relief.

Because I see emptiness, I know that mind determines the amount of suffering I experience.

Because I have suffered endlessly from searching for the good and bad, the people on my side and against me,  I see that discrimination is at the root of suffering.

In others words,  non-discrimination means not minding what happens.

Art of Non-Discrimination

ABOUT CHRISTIAN FANLI RAMSEY Christian Fanli Ramsey is currently a monastic practice at a zen temple in San Francisco. As well as a data scientist at a design and technology firm. They have lived in several countries including the US and China. After spending their childhood moving from place to place and living amongst children in difficult situations, they noticed early on how people handle suffering differently. They noticed directly that desires can be completely extinguished and that one can be completely content regardless of what their situation is by training their mind. They currently practice and study across a broad range of secular and non-secular traditions including Zen, Buddhism, ISKCON, Secular Spirituality, Hinduism, neuroscience, biology, psychology, cognitive science, ecology, Jainism, Judaism, Chan, Christian mysticism and art in search for “calling off the search”. ABOUT WITHOUT DIVISIONWithout Division is the name of the podcast and represents a question that we should all ask ourselves. Can we live without division within ourselves? Can we transcend binaries and getting caught up in differences that only exist in form and name? The podcast is dedicated to topics about the nature of mind, methods of contemplation, and traveling the spiritual path.
