A queer contemporary take of the Goldilocks tale: about love, music, and breaking the cycle of abuse. Goldie escapes a chaotic childhood only to go from a partner who starves her of love to a partner who nearly drowns her in it, before learning to be just right on her own. From CBC Podcasts and Mermaid Palace. Produced by award-winning podcast creator Kaitlin Prest featuring writer/director Drew Denny.

Intimate partner abuse is a topic that doesn't get talked about as much as it should, but especially not in queer relationships. This audio drama is so amazingly well-done—in the writing, the voice acting, the sound design and editing—and it's incredibly nuanced, honest and complex in its portrayals of both survivors and abusers. The one caveat I would add is just that the performances are so visceral and believable that it is at times a bit harrowing, so if depictions of abuse are triggering for you, please be aware of that possibility before starting.
A brutally honest but uplifting show about cycles of abuse and how to break out of them. The thing that impressed me was that the show doesn't make black and white villains out of its characters. Without ever letting them off the hook, the show spreads it wings wide and lets us into the broken, insecure, potentially-redeemable-if-they-find-help viewpoints of its abusers. But Goldie, as a survivor, sets the narrative and at the end, you feel her triumph.
