Jerry Dugan: Hey, what's going on Rutter Nation, this is Jerry

0:22

from beyond the rut and you're watching or listening to a

0:26

Jerry's short. Because it's a short video or

0:27

audio. Plus, I'm a short guy. So Jerry's short, I don't know, I,

0:31

I come up with these things, it's my fault.

0:36

Anyway, what I wanted to talk with you about is it's it's

0:39

August 2022, when I'm making this particular clip. And

0:42

chances are, if you're like most people out there, you probably

0:46

set some goals or some resolutions to tackle and

0:49

conquer the year 2022. And now seven months have gone by, we're

0:53

now in the eighth month of the year, and you're thinking

0:56

yourself, if you're thinking about this at all, wow, I have

1:00

done nothing towards my goal, I'm gonna give up on it. What I

1:03

want to share with you is it's not too late to work on those

1:07

goals and achieve what you set out to do in 2022, you still

1:10

have August through December to knock this thing out. Now, maybe

1:14

you can't knock out all the resolutions or all the goals

1:17

that you had set. And that's okay, what I want to encourage

1:21

you to do is take some time this week, set aside 20 or 30

1:24

minutes, whether it's five minutes a day, in the morning,

1:28

or the first 20 to 30 minutes of your Saturday morning, whatever

1:32

it is, set some time aside, look at all those goals that you

1:35

would set out for yourself. Now, if you've got them written, this

1:39

is easier, because you can look at all these goals and say to

1:43

yourself, you know what? This one thing, this thing I value is

1:46

why I set out for these goals. Maybe it's because I want to be

1:50

around for my family for years to come. Maybe it's because you

1:54

want freedom for your family. So you're pursuing a career goal or

1:58

a financial goal? Whatever it is, establish your Why. Why is

2:01

it you want to do the things that you want to do? What is the

2:05

one thing that's driving you are the many things driving you?

2:08

Excuse me, and from there, look at your list of goals and say

2:12

you know what? Some of these are on here, just because they

2:16

sounded cool, maybe had been drinking it was New Year's Eve,

2:19

you know, things happen. Or maybe you put these goals on

2:23

your list because you felt like that's what you're supposed to

2:26

say because other people say it on YouTube, or tick tock or a

2:30

blog you follow or a podcast? Those don't matter. The thing

2:33

that matters is what is success for you? And why does it matter

2:37

for you. And so when you look at your written goals, and you see

2:41

that there's extraneous stuff there, cross those things off.

2:45

You know, I have a friend who was really big on cold shower

2:48

therapy, I still have that friend, but I'm talking more

2:51

specifically about the cold shower therapy, really big on it

2:55

and encouraged everybody else to do the same. And other people

2:59

jumped on the bandwagon for a bit. And then after a couple

3:02

days, like, oh, no, I don't do that anymore. And I never

3:05

started it. And people asked me, Why didn't you jump on board

3:09

this cold shower therapy thing I said, because I don't want to,

3:13

there's no need for me to challenge myself at 30 days to

3:16

take a cold shower. There's nothing, I get nothing from it.

3:20

I mean, I could probably boost my immune system and all those

3:23

good things. But I don't have the same reasons you do to do

3:27

that thing. So I'm not gonna put that on my list. And so I

3:30

didn't, and I don't feel bad for doing that. Could I benefited

3:34

from it, maybe. But it's not something that's for me. Now

3:37

something for me is I get up at 5am Every morning, and I do some

3:41

stretching, I walk around, I drink some water. And I do some

3:45

reading, I do some producing for beyond the rut. And those are

3:48

things that matter to me, because I'm building time for on

3:52

my own personal growth, professional growth and building

3:55

this platform. So that matters to me. Now, do you want to get

3:59

up at five in the morning and do podcasting and blogging and

4:02

social media stuff? Probably not. It's okay, you don't have

4:06

to. So know why you want to do the things you want to do in

4:09

life. And that's the best first thing to do before you tackle

4:13

any other goals for you write them down and all that stuff.

4:17

Now, maybe you don't have written goals. And this is a

4:20

great clean slate for you. Because now you can really write

4:23

down the things that matter and leave off the stuff that

4:26

doesn't, you're more likely to achieve your goals. If you've

4:30

got them written down and you can see them on a regular basis.

4:33

I've got mine written down. I have it on Evernote and I could

4:36

just reference it on a daily basis on a weekly basis, monthly

4:39

basis. Whatever it is I choose, I can go back and look and see

4:43

how I'm doing. So that is my tip for the day is go back. Look at

4:46

those goals. Know your why why is it you want to do those

4:52

things? Cross off the stuff that absolutely is not you. Even if

4:55

you hesitate about it like well, maybe I do want to do this. If

4:59

you hesitate. That's not your goal, cross it off. Now if you

5:02

look at a goal and you say yes, that is something I really need

5:05

to do I want to do this. Here's why I want to do it. Keep that

5:09

on your list. Now in the next Jerry short, we'll talk about

5:12

smart goals and how to structure those and get the most out of

5:15

that. So With that said till next time go live life be on the
