Hello, I am Samantha, the artificial voice of BrightTitan. I am responsible to voice the episodes of BrightTitan Cast as well as BrightTitan’s videos on YouTube. If you are following the BrightTitan for some time, then you are already familiar with our reasoning to use artificial voice. If you don’t know though, the main reason is the fact that it is possible to make the artificial voice sound exactly like we want. Furthermore, it is always ready to sound our content. In other words, we use an artificial voice because it is more practical as well as for effective. Anyway, I think we should start this episode of BrightTitan Cast, our main podcast dedicated for technology news where we talk about the latest topics in the technology world and, of course, with our comments.

This week was a dangerous one so were the last three months. Why? Because there were 5 cases of Samsung Galaxy Note 7s to catch fire in this week. However, the problem was that all of those 5 phones were the replacements ones. The ones that should be safe. The ones that are new which were given to the users after the first recall. Ones that shouldn’t catch fire or explode. And they are also exploding because they have the exact same problem with the original units although their batteries are different. Don’t get me wrong, I mean every device with a lithium -ion battery has a potential of exploding or catching fire, but Note 7 is way more dangerous than any other phone yet. We don’t usually hear five cases of explosions involving the same model in only one week. At the same time, companies don’t usually send you a special box within few more boxes as well as gloves to take your device. The situation is that serious. Every Samsung Galaxy Note 7 unit has a potential of exploding or more precisely, has a potential of catching fire and that is bad. The only solution to prevent any injuries is to collect every Note 7 out there. Furthermore, at this step, they can’t just make another recall. The reputation of Note series and even the reputation of Samsung is so bad right now. Today, there were even reports on the internet saying that Samsung will discontinue the Note series, which, in my opinion, was better than the S series. However, it is about to be a part of the history. The situation is so bad that people even think other Samsung phones have the same problem. Yes, they can explode like any other phone, but they are different than the Note 7. Anyway, the only solution was to stop the sales of Note 7 as well as its production. And, Samsung did that. Go to a tech store or even to a Samsung Store, and the chances are you will probably not be able to buy Note 7 or in some cases, even see it. Furthermore, Samsung is not making any other Note 7. The production has been stopped. They even started to recall the units no matter if that is a replacement or not. Also, now, Samsung is no longer gives you a new note 7 in the recall. Instead, they allow you to get any other Samsung phone or to get a full refund. Carriers, on the other hand, allows you to get any other phone and you don’t have to get a Samsung.

To sum up, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is dead. It is shame because it had a great potential. And few months after its announcement, it is already gone. Now, the most powerful phone of Samsung is the Galaxy S7 Edge, again. That is also why Samsung increased the production of S7 and S7 Edge in the same week when they stopped the production of Note 7. Because they still believe Note 7 users will get a phone from the Samsung. In most of the cases, it is true. They will probably downgrade to S7 or to the big brother of the S7 , but let’s not forget that most of the people who exchanged their phones got the iPhone 7 instead. Maybe, they wouldn’t use an iPhone in their life time if Note 7 didn’t have this problem. But, most of the Samsung owners are now on their way to become Apple owners. That is all thanks to Note 7 and the bad recall process.

As I am saying in each week, I can understand that electronic devices may have serious problems, but as long as, the company can collect the devices and change them with the new ones as fast as possible. However, let’s look at Samsung. First, we got news that said some Note 7 caught fire. But, Samsung didn’t do anything until it was too late. Then, finally, they started a worldwide recall, but it was so bad. If you happen to be a Note 7 user before the recall, you know what I am talking about. It was a mess. Most of the time, it was even impossible to return your phone. In US, Samsung was saying that someone would call you, but usually nobody did. Moreover, nobody from Samsung actually talked about the issue. They only wrote some statements in their website, but that was all. If we had the same problem with Apple, Tim Cook would probably go on the TV, and would make a statement. For example, do you remember when some iPhones had a problem with their antennas. I don’t exactly remember which models were affected, but it was a model from Steve Job’s time. In that time, Steve Jobs left his vacation when he heard the issue. And, he, personally, apologized from the users, although the problem was not as big and as dangerous as the issue on the Note 7. Apple even give a free gift to the affected users. The gift was something like a case, but at least, it was such a good manner. And now, let’s look at Samsung. Did they even apologize from their own users for putting their life at danger? No, they didn’t. And did any executive from Samsung made a statement? Again, the answer is no.

And, we are back to the BrightTitan Cast. I used to love Samsung, but they disappointed me each time. In the past, there were serious problems with the built quality and with the software updates on their mobile devices. Now, Samsung solved most of those problems, but still struggling with the user happiness. That is the main difference between Samsung and Apple. Even though, of cousre, not everyone is happy with Apple, I believe the amount of people who are unhappy with their Apple products are way less than the people unhappy with Samsung products.

Maybe, the damage that the Note 7 fiasco done to the Samsung will change this situation. However, in any case, they will need to make something to earn the trust of their users. Just think about this. Even though S series has nothing to do, it was even needed for Samsung to send a notification to S7 users saying that their device is not affected. What I am saying that most of the people lost their trusts to the Samsung itself, not to the Note series. And of course, it will affect the next S and Note phone.

On the other hand, those three months were terrible for Samsung. The phone that was being loved by many people had such a huge problem that eventually, Samsung needed to stop producing it. Meanwhile, Apple, the biggest competitor of Samsung, had an opportunity to introduce a phone that was using the same design with two year old iPhone. Also, let’s not forget the Pixel, a phone made by Google. It is produced by the company, whose’s operating system powers the Samsung phones. Now, Samsung has one more competitor and that is the Google. However, let’s also not forget that the future of the Pixel is unknown, which can be good for Samsung in same cases. I mean it is a decent device and surely, Google cares a lot about it so far, but it is Google’s hobby to discontinue its own devices. There have been many devices made by Google, but the only device that lasted so long was the $35 Chromecast; it was not Nexus Q or it was not Nest which is produced by company bought by Google for millions of dollars. It is this cheap device with an only one ability. And that ability is to stream content from your phone to your TV. But, it is so popular, and it is probably the most successful hardware product of Google yet. Other than the Chromecast though, they didn’t care about the hardware until the last Google event. Until the event, their device catalogue was full of dead devices; discounted by Google. For example, think about the Google Glass. Yes, it was overpriced for what it was capable of, but Google was thinking that their $1500 Glass would be the future. But, it is not. In its first months, it was very popular, but now, nobody is talking about it. It was, at least, popular when it was launched. There are even some devices, again made By Google, but which became part of the history too soon. I am talking about the Nexus Q. Even when it was announced, only little amount of people cared about it. Maybe, Pixel phones and the smart home devices of Google will be successful and will be continued in the future, but there is a potential for Google to discontinue those series in any ways.

However, in any ways, Note 7 fiasco had a huge impact on Samsung. Not only they  lost billions of dollars to recall process, but also their reputation has been affected. The bad thing is that people will not forget about this for years. It will not be over in a few months, but instead, it will be remembered for a long time.
