Good morning theater fans! I'm Caryn Robbins with The Broadway Scoop for Friday, January 7th.
Tony Award winning composer Jason Robert Brown will bring his hit musical '13' to the small screen with an upcoming Netflix adaptation. Featuring a book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn, '13' premiered in Los Angeles in 2007 before moving on to Broadway's Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre the following year. The unique musical featured a cast and band entirely comprised of teenagers, including a young Ariana Grande in her Broadway debut. Filming on the Netflix project is set to begin this August.
Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan will join the cast of the off-Broadway revival of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, succeeding Gideon Glick in the role of Seymour beginning March 17. Currently running at the Westside Theatre, the re-staging of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman's iconic musical recently extended through May 10.
And beginning March 10th, Olivia Kaufmann will take over the role of Janis Sarkisian in the hit Broadway musical MEAN GIRLS, succeeding the role's originator Barrett Wilbert Weed. Joining her in the cast will be former FROZEN star Chad Burris who will step into the role of Damian Hubbard. Directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, and penned by Tina Fey, MEAN GIRLS premiered at the August Wilson Theatre in 2018.
And that's The Broadway Scoop for Friday, February 7th.
