When Austin Johnson, a junior from Boise, Idaho, felt the pull to pivot his life's direction, little did he know it would lead him to the heart of Africa and into the lives of abandoned children with special needs. Austin made the tough decision to drop out of college to enroll in helping vulnerable kids in Africa. Luckily, this decision led him to his wife, Arianne, who he met in Ghana on his first trip to Africa. Austin eventually completed his schooling after receiving a Masters in Nonprofit Administration from Notre Dame. For over a decade, Austin has helped manage a children’s shelter in Ghana that gives holistic care to children who have been rescued from slavery or abandonment. Now, Austin enjoys living in Idaho with Arianne and their three kids, adventuring locally and abroad, and scheming up ways to better help the children in Ghana.
