Your energy is the second most important thing about your video (right behind your content). This episode details what I mean by 'energy' and my experience in having to build it as a professional Spokesperson.

Is caffeine a short-cut to creating energy? Can it make you better on-camera?

Before I dive into that, let me re-define what I mean when I say your Energy. It all boils down to what people see and feel when they come to your page.

Think of a content creator, coach, motivational speaker, or friend you love to watch on video. When their name pops up on your feed, what do you expect to see? What do you expect to feel? Do you know you're going to laugh, or learn, or feel inspired? Your expectations are set by what you've seen from their content in the past. And you're anticipating to feel what you've felt from watching their content in the past.

Because that's the energy they've put onto their page.  It's the energy you expect to see.

Why is energy important? I am a FIRM believer that people come to your page because of the content (which we want to be gold), but I believe people stay on your page because of you. Because they like you. If something deep inside them didn't connect with you and your message, they wouldn't stay on your page.  They come for the content, they stay for you. They stay because of the energy you put into your content.

Whether you are aware of it or not, you put out a specific energy. And you have the power to control that energy and make it as authentic to you as possible.

Now, let's talk about caffeine. My advice is to take video as you are regularly. If that means you have coffee in the morning, then have your coffee in the morning. If you regularly don't consume caffeine, then don't consume it just because you want energy on-camera.

I am not glorifying caffeine or saying it's healthy,  but as someone who regularly drinks coffee, here are some of the ways it effects my delivery.

Caffeine will often make me talk faster, animate more, and add longevity to my ability to talk. But friends, it won't make up for a tough day. It won't alleviate the heaviness you may be carrying with you on-video. It can provide you with a pep, but the rest, is up to you.

I do not think it makes you any better, I think you're already amazing and enough. In the end, do what makes you feel like you're putting your best foot forward.

Caffeine is no where near a replacement for the capability to cultivate and control your energy when you're on-camera. This is a skill that comes with time. It's taken me years to cultivate. But it's all in the journey! Don't be afraid to grow in front of your audience. Because as long as you continue to pour into your content and make that gold, you have enough to take amazing video.
