“The wrong doctor” that Esma Kitchum loved was the sugary, syrupy Dr. Pepper.

For years, stressed-out Esma self-medicated with potato chips, cakes, sweet rolls, and soft drinks. But then some other doctors got involved—the ones at CommUnityCare. At first, Esma took baby steps, cutting back on sugary drinks and salty snacks.   She began to exercise. She took nutrition and healthy lifestyle classes at Central Health’s Southeast Health & Wellness Center.

Today, Esma is pedaling herself back to health, and convincing others to come along for the ride.
