On the 12th day of fitness , my
0:46
coach gave to me day
0:50
number 12 is here . This is the Buddy
0:52
Run . Welcome back everybody to another episode
0:55
of the Do Our Things podcast , and
0:57
this is the 12th and final day
1:00
of the fitness challenge . I'm just coming
1:02
at you live for a minute just
1:04
to kind of wrap this thing up . Let's
1:07
just talk about the challenge and then we'll
1:09
talk about the meaning of Christmas
1:11
and I've got a final little festive holiday
1:14
thing to leave you with a version
1:16
of towards the night before Christmas
1:18
fitness edition
1:21
, all right . So all
1:23
right , let's talk about day 12 . First
1:25
and foremost , thank you so much for participating
1:27
in this and I've enjoyed seeing
1:29
all the photos of everyone getting after it
1:31
and just making
1:33
this holiday just
1:37
a little bit more exciting . Right With working
1:39
out and sharing and community , and that's
1:41
what this is all about . So the Buddy
1:43
Run what is the Buddy Run about ? All right , so you're
1:45
going to grab a friend or a family member and
1:48
you're going to hit the road or the trail together and
1:51
you're going to run at least a mile , all right . So this isn't
1:53
because we want you to encourage someone
1:55
that maybe hasn't run with you before and
1:58
you're going to do something short and if it
2:00
needs to be a walk , that's cool too , all right , but
2:02
the intent is to run minimum of a
2:05
mile . And this is about sharing
2:07
your fitness journey with someone
2:10
else , your joy of running and maybe
2:12
inspiring someone new in
2:15
the process . Chances
2:17
are . You're probably Christmas Eve
2:19
, you're probably with family and friends and
2:21
we just want you to encourage
2:23
, to enjoy that moment with someone else . So it's
2:26
pretty simple . If
2:28
, during the run , you're just going to snap a photo
2:31
of both of you together or maybe record
2:33
a quick video and just share
2:35
with us using the hashtag 12 days of fitness
2:37
, dht , we just want to see
2:39
the smiling faces and hear about today's
2:41
Buddy experience . And
2:45
how did they find the run ? What was it like
2:47
sharing that moment with them ? What was
2:49
that conversation like ? And that's
2:51
it ? Just a simple , easy way to
2:53
cap out this challenge that the hard
2:55
part might actually be finding a Buddy that's willing to go with
2:57
you . Maybe not , I don't know , but that's it
2:59
. That's it . If you want to go
3:01
further , by all means . You want to do 5K , you want to do
3:03
10K ? Cool , even better . But
3:06
at a minimum , today's requirement is simply
3:08
a run with a
3:10
Buddy , family member or friend
3:13
, and
3:15
it's all about togetherness . It's all about togetherness
3:18
and community . On your fitness journey , oftentimes
3:21
it's hard to get up some days to
3:23
work out by yourself , but if you have
3:25
a community , that's so incredibly
3:27
powerful . We as humans need community
3:30
, we need tribe and
3:33
having these experiences with someone else , it
3:35
not only maybe pushes you
3:37
but it also encourages them and
3:40
you have that sense of camaraderie and companionship
3:42
and shared achievement . And
3:45
that's it . And while you're
3:47
running with them , I just want you to reflect on the
3:49
journey that you've undertaken , the strides
3:52
that you've made , and maybe
3:54
share with them why this lifestyle
3:57
is important to you , and
4:00
that's it . As you finish up the run , you're going
4:02
to take a photo and share , and
4:04
that's it . I
4:07
also just want to say that you know
4:09
the essence of
4:11
Christmas and holidays right . It's
4:14
a time . It's more
4:16
than just the gifts and the food and
4:18
all of the other
4:20
activities , but it's a time of reflection and
4:22
celebration of your life . It's
4:24
the season of giving and
4:26
it's when we come together and it's a time
4:29
that we can put aside our differences and
4:31
really connect with
4:33
other people . So use
4:36
it as an opportunity to contribute
4:38
and to give and to make a difference , and
4:41
I know there's been a lot of stress . I
4:43
know , just , even
4:46
in our household , just trying to get all the gifts and try
4:48
to make all the—it can be stressful
4:50
. Right , you've got to get all the
4:53
things together , you've got to be at the right places at the
4:56
right time . And the financial
4:58
aspect and is—are those
5:00
parts going to like the gift or not ? You know there's all
5:02
of that that's happening . But
5:05
just remember the true reason for the season
5:07
, whatever that is for you , and
5:09
you know it's all about the connection . It
5:12
doesn't have to be perfect . It's
5:14
about you know whatever it means for you
5:16
and if you're religious , you know your connection
5:18
with the birth of Christ and the celebration
5:21
of the Holy Spirit and the birth
5:23
, and it's—the
5:27
season's been kind of hijacked with
5:29
commercialism a little bit . So just detach yourself
5:31
from that just a little bit and
5:34
find an opportunity to
5:37
give , if you're able to , and
5:40
maybe do something kind for someone that you don't
5:42
know , and I think that's where some of the magic
5:44
of Christmas is for me . So
5:47
that's it . As you
5:49
wrap up the 2023 year
5:51
, it takes some time to reflect
5:54
. 2024 is right
5:56
around the corner and
5:58
yeah , that's it , that's it
6:00
, and I just want to say one final thing about the Buddy
6:02
Run the
6:04
power of community is incredibly important and that's what
6:07
we're trying to create here with the—that's
6:09
what we're trying to do . What we're doing , we're
6:11
creating a community , a lifestyle
6:13
around the do hard things mindset . What does that
6:15
mean ? Well , do means take action
6:18
. It's
6:20
about not thinking
6:23
about things but actually taking action
6:25
, massive action toward your
6:27
goals . Hard actually has
6:29
a framework . It's the four lines of effort of your life your
6:31
health and wellness , affluence
6:33
and wealth , your relationships , your
6:36
development . If you're not growing , you're dying . Those are the four
6:38
lines of effort in your life . And
6:40
then things are focusing on the things that matter
6:42
. And then it's about living a life
6:45
on offense versus defense . So many people
6:47
are living in autopilot and
6:49
they're reacting to everything . And the do hard things mindset
6:51
is about living a life leaning into
6:54
things , being a leader , being a role
6:56
model , and that's why
6:58
oftentimes we share we share publicly
7:01
kind of what we're doing . We encourage
7:03
other people , and it's finding
7:05
opportunities to lead and
7:07
extend influence in a positive way
7:09
. And that's what the do hard things mindset's all about
7:11
, and that's why these little challenges , like taking someone
7:13
else on a run with you , they're important , they're
7:17
incredibly important . So
7:19
, yeah , that's it . I have appreciated
7:21
all of you participating in this challenge
7:24
. I appreciate the support for the Do Hard Things Nation
7:26
and
7:28
we're excited about 2024 . Although this
7:31
challenge is coming to an end , keep
7:34
an eye out , because 2024 is January , 2024
7:36
is right around the corner and
7:39
our plan is to have a challenge
7:41
of the month every month
7:43
for the month of 2024 . So keep
7:45
an eye out on that . If you want to learn more about that
7:47
, go to DoHardThingsNationcom . You
7:50
can sign up for the newsletter . If you're not already on there , join
7:52
the Facebook community , and
7:54
2024 is going to be amazing . We've got
7:56
a lot of great things planned , so we're looking forward
7:58
to that . So , all right , I
8:00
found this poem , so
8:02
we're going to end this with a
8:05
poem written by Trey
8:07
Tompkins at least his version of it and
8:10
it was "'Twas the night before Christmas at
8:13
the gym'" . Okay
8:15
, so I'll read this to you and then we'll call it
8:17
a day , all right . "'twas
8:20
the night before Christmas went all through
8:22
the gym . Not a creature was stirring'"
8:24
, not even grown up ugly
8:26
men . The stockings
8:29
were hung by the squat rack with care , in
8:31
hopes that st Arnold would soon be there . The
8:34
members were nestled all snug in their
8:36
beds with visions of sweat
8:39
droplets steamed down their forehead , and
8:41
the trainer with his
8:43
frown , and I by his
8:45
flank . He just set our minds
8:47
to a 30 second plank when
8:50
out of the parking lot arose such
8:52
a clatter . I sprang
8:54
from my stance to see what was the matter . A Way
8:57
to the window . I hurried and jumped tore
9:00
open my t-shirt to show off being pumped
9:02
. The moon on
9:04
the breast of a new fallen snow
9:06
Gave the luster
9:08
of midday . Objectives below , when
9:11
, what to delay my goal should appear
9:13
, but a weightlifting sleigh and
9:15
eight chiseled reindeer with
9:17
a massive old driver , a broad
9:20
intimidator . I knew in a moment
9:22
it must be the terminator , more
9:24
rapid than CrossFit , his
9:27
courses . They came and
9:29
he whistled and shouted and they
9:31
all , it called them by name now
9:34
Dasher , now dancer , prancer
9:36
and Vixen On
9:40
Comet , on Cupid
9:42
, on Donner and Blitzen , to
9:45
the top of the roof , to the top of the obstacle
9:47
wall . Now , flux away , flux away
9:50
, flux away . All as Runners
9:52
that after the gun of a 5k
9:54
, when they meet with a roadblock , briskly
9:57
jump away . So up to the rooftop
9:59
, the courses they knew , with
10:02
the sleigh full of kettle , bells and St
10:04
Arnold to , and Then
10:06
, in an interval , I heard on the roof , the
10:09
prancing and pong of each vene hoof
10:11
. As I drew in my head and
10:13
was Turning around Down
10:15
the climbing rope , st Arnold came
10:17
with a bound . He was dressed on
10:19
sweats from his toes to his
10:21
cusps and his clothes were all sweaty
10:23
from squats and push-ups . A Bundle
10:26
of iron he had flung on his back and
10:29
he looked like a giant , just opening
10:31
his pack . His forearms
10:34
, how they bulged his pecs , how scary
10:36
his chin was like ski steel
10:38
. His stance made
10:40
me wary . His calves
10:43
flex hard like a bodybuilding show
10:45
, and the intensity of his aura . You
10:47
may never know the weight of his bag
10:49
he held tight in his grip , but with
10:52
such savvy , strength it just wouldn't
10:54
rip . He had broad shoulders
10:56
and abs and with such envy the
10:58
veins popped out when he flexed , like
11:00
a Hollywood movie . He was shredded
11:02
and jacked , a muscular old man . I
11:04
flinched when I saw him , in spite of my workout
11:07
plan . A wink of his eye
11:09
and a twist of his head . Soon gave
11:11
me no , I had nothing to dread
11:13
. He spoke not a word , but
11:15
went straight to his work and filled
11:18
up the barbell and cleaned with a jerk , then
11:21
flexing his bicep with a firm grip
11:23
he chose and giving a nod
11:25
. Back up to the climbing rope , he rose . He
11:28
sprang to a sleigh and
11:30
to his team , gave command and away . They
11:33
all flew like cheetahs on dry land , but
11:35
I heard him exclaim ear . He
11:37
yelled with a shout Merry
11:39
Christmas to all and to all
11:42
, a good workout . All
11:44
right , that's it . That's the end . That was the
11:46
twight . That was the night before
11:48
Christmas gym edition , and appreciate
11:51
you guys all for being a part of this and Wish
11:53
you a Merry Christmas , safe travels , happy
11:56
holidays and we look forward to seeing
11:58
you in the new year . Do hard
12:00
things .
