Hey everyone, this is Cam Byrne and welcome to the first Fistbump Podcast of 2019.
Firstly, an apology: although we got off to a good start in 2018, towards the end of the year life got in the way a bit, as well as some guests being unable to make it onto the podcast over the Christmas period. It’s surprisingly hard to align my schedule and potential guests, as I’ve got a Monday to Friday job and many of the people that I want to interview aren’t available after hours as they have gyms to run, families to see, or fighters to train. We have a few guests lined up for the coming weeks, so hopefully I can get into a bit more a rhythm with these episodes. Again, if you have any suggestions on who you’d like on the podcast, feel free to let me know.
Today we have Deon Perkins, BJJ Black Belt and Head Coach at Perkins Jiu Jitsu out of Hammers Gym in Nunawading. I’ve known Deon for about 8 years now, and he was actually my first BJJ coach for about 6 years. I received both my blue and purple belt from him, he’s an incredibly technical coach, and the Perkins club has grown (both in size and skill) under his guidance. We talk through a lot of different subjects on this one, but it’s great to hear the strides he’s making at his club. For those that are lucky enough to live in Melbourne nearby, I’d highly recommend coming down and checking out the club.
I hope you enjoy it.
