In today's episode, we talk about the 5 common mistakes I hear over and over again on repeat when talking to folks trying to drive engagement.

I have learned you will NOT drive engagement by:

Throwing parties! Hosting a book club. Celebrating silly hat day/cat day! Hosting an all-hands meeting without asking how it went. Gifting without asking employees what they like

Listen. These efforts take a lot of work on your part—and will fall flat when your employee experience is very broken. You CAN implement these nice-to-haves, once you've proven to your people that you care about how the work gets done, optimizing outdated or manual processes, workshopping managers to lead up happy teams, and ensuring your all-hands isn't an expensive waste of company time and money.

You can throw your parties and host your clubs once you've built trust with your people that you care about their actual DAILY workplace experience.

Topics discussed

  • Why employees don't participate in your best ideas
  • Why employees seem like they don't want to be at all company functions
  • How to get employees and the CEO to buy in
  • Book clubs don't work, unless...
  • Company parties are like family get-togethers
