For Ms Jude Caroll’s second plenary presentation, she described strategies which have been employed by universities in other parts of the world. Some of these strategies included conducting induction lectures and ‘wake up’ activities, public ‘telling off’ when a case of plagiarism was found, use of Turnitin, and conducting interactive, plagiarism-specific workshops. She advised discretionary use of some strategies over others and explored their impact. In addition, Ms Caroll also facilitated a workshop “Designing Assessment to Deter Students from Plagiarism”, providing hands-on practice sessions on the design of effective assessments, as well as facilitating rich discussions on the use of assessments to deter students from plagiarism.
