Dr Susheela Balasundaram is the Head of the Public Health Unit at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Malaysia, more widely known as UNHCR. She started working with refugees 20 years ago as a volunteer providing mobile primary care services for them. She has worked with Doctors without Borders, and has served in 2 refugee emergencies - in Uganda in 2014 for the South Sudan conflict and in 2017- Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh. In the face of the covid 19 pandemic and the protracted crises of our world, Dr Susheela has been a fearless, vocal advocate for the rights of people forced to flee.
