In this episode, William interviews friend and fellow Irishman, Karl Finaly.

Karl was born and bred in Belfast, Northern Ireland; a country which has been divided over religious conflict for many years. Karl recounts his experience growing up in Belfast, where much of the religious tension and conflict was most prevalent in the North, and shares how his experience of attending the first Integrated School (both Catholic and Protestant students in attendance) helped shape his perception and perspective of not only who he was, but how little the conflict and division of the opposing religions actually mattered once those barriers of separation and segregation were broken down.

William and Karl go onto discuss their experiences of coming to Australia and the trials and tribulations both have faced since landing on these sandy, sunny shores; ranging from their experiences of doing the all dreaded and often times exploitative “farm work” and the hard manual and underpaid work this entailed, through to discovering oneself as a result of a violent assault.
