Blog-May 24, 2024---9-10---It’s YOUR Business
In essence the start of the Memorial Day Weekend and as we prepared for the events that will come on Saturday----and others mostly on Monday---we covered a lot of ground with a central theme----remembering our veterans who gave their lives—and how two O’Gorman young ladies with the push from their mom have us all thinking about remembering the ultimate sacrifice that was given.
Ken Teunissen was with us---yes he is “Mr. Purple Heart” along with Denise Guzetta and her daughters Juliana and Ava---have shared during the last week the way that we can all remember those that gave their lives for their country. Their plan is to put a red carnation on the grave of every veteran at South Dakota’s Veterans Ceremony on Saturday between 8-9:30. To us it was a chance to encourage our young people and those a bit older to say thank you for this Memorial Day Weekend.
For us it was a chance to engage and we did and as a follow-up we’ll share a wrap up on our next show---which will be Tuesday 9-10---on May 28th.
Who else was in this show---Jodi Schwan---Sioux Falls Business and she is takin her hard work for business to the next level—and we will be here to help anyway we can. Jodi and I both have a lot of years of experience in the television side—and to me—she knows news---covers it---breaks it and then we talk about It each Friday. We share our podcast with her segment----and she shares our story lines and it will be even more in the future.
She is a believable reporter-----and we enjoy being able to share storylines where-ever possible.
Among her other stories this week a Creative SD Spot is drawing attention in New York City, plus she shared high schoolers graduate and the move forward with their careers.
Jessie Schmidt---BBB of South Dakota tipped us all to scammers that are targeting victims thru the device connected to the internet and your TV. BBB Scam Tracker has seen many reports about scammers catching people off guard with pop-ups on their smart TV’s. Their objection is to steal your personal information and money too.
The scam works when you open a familiar streaming service on your smart TV. However, you can’t log in. Instead a pop-up appears telling you there is a problem with your device or your streaming subscription. Yes you need to call a phone number or visit a website. Jessie says don’t fall for it. If you call the number, scammers pretend to be customer service eps. They will insist you pay an activation fee or allow them remote access to your smart TV. If you pay the fee, these con artists will get your credit or debit card number. They might even ask you to “fix” the issue by paying them in gift cards. NEVER let anyone control your device remotely.
Mike Meyers or is it Myers-Manager of the Sioux Falls Canaries is on the road in Franklin Wisconsin---the Birds are in second place----and we had a chance to talk about his time in Texas managing in Laredo---I told him about my years in television watching the Amarillo Gold Sox---and the El Paso Diablos. The Birds will finish a road series—and come back home—for when we talk next week.
Dave Austad---yes Mr. Golf in Sioux Falls—talked about how to get your clubs ready to really compete. The way they can match your swing—your strengths—to the right clubs---make me want to perhaps toss some of those club’s I bought in Alabama and Tennessee. We’ll keep a close eye on Dave—his son who made the trip for the family this year to the Master’s---and yes what he thinks of Scottie Scheffler who has been #1 in the world---got himself in trouble in Louisville for the last Major last week---and how it will affect him for the rest of the season.
We closed the hour with Diana Patterson---Sanford Career Opportunities. Today we talked about openings for RN’s and LPN’s.
Our It’s YOUR Business show talks a lot of interesting stuff in business from baseball to Veterans---golf to TV Scammers which utilized Smart TV--- Jessie says watch what you are doing and don’t get taken.
It’s YOUR Business is a show that covers business ideas---problems and gives you a chance to stay up to date.
Listen live at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---use the KELO App—streaming on line -or just ask Alexa. Norm Anderson will post this show as a podcast---for May 24, 2024-9-10.
