RATING
I listened to Kane and Feels for the first time a few weeks ago and it has very quickly become one of my favorite shows. The plot is a little confusing at first, but listening again it's very easy to pick up on all sorts of foreshadowing and hints. This might be a turn off for some people, but I really like listening to things multiple times so it's perfect for me. I adore the humor of the show, there are several moments that get me laughing every time I hear them.
Never before have I fallen in love with a show just because it's so... weird. The story itself is actually fairly straightforward, but the way it's laid out is so surreal that it takes you 30-40 minutes to unravel something that could theoretically be summarized in three sentences. And it is BEAUTIFUL. It's like being in a freeze-frame of a movie with someone narrating into your ear the backstory of an extra you can barely see leaving the shot, and when you stop to ask "Wait, why is this important?" they'll gleefully say "WELL, now that you ask-" and transport you to completely different time and place where suddenly actually things do make sense, really, now that it's in the right context. It's lovely. It's confusing. It has some of the most creative sound design I've heard in a long while.
Judging Kane and Feels after your first listenthrough is like judging an onion by it's skin. You have to peel many layers before you can really taste the sweetness of this delicious podcast.
Incredibly bizarre and one of my favorites!Kane and Feels is so delightfully weird, all the time. I have to mention the sound mixing first - it's so incredibly well done in the show, serving both a thematic purpose and just extremely cool audio, that it's become one of the show's greatest strengths. As well as the story! Once you parse through it, the story is really worth listening to. The first season has these excellent little stand-alone (but not REALLY stand-alone bits) that just have absolutely amazing imagery attached. The Day Trippers series is also a really fun, abstract work that really had me wondering what was going to happen next! It's a fun blend of the old, old supernatural stories and fun new slang terms (the little moments of levity between Kane and Feels are SO fun), and I can't recommend it more!
A wild ride of hot trippy madness with soundscaping that makes you feel like your brain is being pulled out of your ears and tied under your chin. And then there was that one episode which both retraumatised me from my days as a City Councillor and also touched me with how beautiful the ending was. Anyway, make sure you listen with headphones.
Thumbs up for premise, writing, & acting, but I couldn't get through the second season (listening with headphones), no matter how technically well-done the sound design. The surrealism was perhaps so well- executed, that it made getting past the first episode of the second season impossible for me.May be worth a listen if you are into buddy-cop, noir detectives, investigating the occult.
A great pair of intrepid investigators with plenty of quirky character and plot twists. Excellent writing and performances draw the listener into Kane and Feels' version of reality slightly past the edge of peripheral vision.
