Welcome to a very special edition of Level Up Podcast, with your hosts Jemimah Ashleigh and Tim Hyde.

Jemimah is fresh back from an international speaking gig in the USA and they are joined today by Nick Johnson, the founder of Nimic Productions who you might recognise as the sponsor of Level Up Podcast, and where Jemimah and Tim record the show.  Nick shares how he began Nimic Productions with his best friend from University, Mic, including how he and his business partner custom built their studios in Canberra and Sydney, and how their builders took so long to finish construction they had the manually lay a large floor over three days, non-stop.

Nick shares the hurdles he’s overcome in building his business, including overspending on construction and how they were impacted by the GFC, and how that created a lasting change to how they do business today, as well as their achievements including being on The Gruen Transfer with Wil Anderson (available in ABC shops and ABC iview).

TOP 5 LESSONS

Have strong payment terms in your business.

Diversify in the type of clients you can serve, so you’re not relying just on one industry.

Hire someone to do things that you’re not good at or enjoy in your business so you can do the things you’re actually good at.

You’re only as good as the last thing you accomplished.

Have and build your resilience.
