What do you think is the single most important skill for modern-day marketing and promotion is?

In other words, what is number one skill that’s responsible for selling, converting, and influencing the minds of audiences whether we’re talking religion, politics, pop culture, media & news, entertainment, business sales, causes, or even world wars?

I’m going to give you multiple choice:

A. Graphic Design

B. Social Media Management

C. Copywriting

D. Marketing Strategy

A. Graphic Design is not the One skill: It is said that pictures tell a thousand words. I believe this is true, but artwork by itself is incapable of moving the masses of people to make decisions, translate value, and sell things.

That’s why people don’t spend $10k running ads to get people to a webinar and just show them some cool graphics.

B. Social Media Management is not the One Skill: Social media managers are an important role to fill in your business today.

Social media has quickly gone from non-existent to an indispensable media to quickly going from nothing to huge audience in break-neck speed.

But the reality is social media itself has only been around for about 15 years.

D. Marketing Strategy is critical: Yes, this is critical but not as fundamentally important to moving people.

Marketing strategy is like the strategy of winning the superbowl or NBA championship.

It determines how the players move, who they focus their efforts on, plays they choose to run throughout the game, and more. It is critical to success.

Still, if strategy tells players where they need to be and how to get there in a game, it still can’t score points.

This is why strategies can be laid out on white boards. Players still have to have the basic skill of catching the ball, throwing the ball, shooting or hitting the ball, etc.

The answer is C. Copywriting: Emotional Direct Response Copywriting is the single most important skill needed to move people - whether you want them to vote a certain way, buy your offer, tune in to your video live, support your cause, or believe certain things.

What is copywriting? Copywriting is the act or occupation of writing text for the purpose of advertising or other forms of marketing. The product, called copy or sales copy, is written content that aims to increase brand awareness and ultimately persuade a person or group to take a particular action. - Wikipedia

Ron Hubbard, founder of the infamous Scientology religion, captured and brain washed the minds of smart, affluent, family-oriented Americans and some of the biggest names in Hollywood - amassing a $3 billion dollar fortune from them.

Did you know that Hubbard was a Copywriter?

He is an example what some of the bad results that can happen when you put this skill in the hands of the wrong person.

Stan Lee. Oprah Winfrey’s rise to success. Hillary Clinton’s loss, Obama’s win. Beachbody. George Lucas.

CNN and FOX News, are all examples of storylines, headlines, sensational stories - all a part of a copywriter’s toolbox - captivating people.

At the end of all the marketing strategy, graphic design, and social media management, it’s the words that are said that will either lead to poor results or a fast-growing audience and maximum sales potential.

Digital Marketing Strategies are offered as Google images now. Everybody talks about the strategies they use to gain their success.

But it’s the words that they say, pitches and sales presentations - crafted by a seasoned copywriter, that is the ultimate key to success.
