The Libertines packaged punk with poetry into a distinctly British version of the garage rock sound made popular by The Strokes in the early 2000s. Fronted by Pete Doherty and Carl Barat, whose love-hate relationship was as unstable as their creativity was bountiful, the band was known for their drunk-Cockney-slurred vocals, unpolished lo-fi sound and guerilla gigs (often featuring stage invasions). Pete's struggles with drug addiction created ongoing problems for the band that ultimately led to his absence from touring, culminating in their dissolution in 2004. As the 2010s rolled in, buoyed by a series of reunion gigs and Pete completing rehab in Thailand, the band reunited to record their come-back third album "Anthems for Doomed Youth" in 2015. Received well by critics and fans alike, the album not only continued the self-referential lyrical style they were known for, but also reflected poingnantly on the bumpy road that led them to where they were. On this episode, expect lots of profanities, drug references and tales of true crime as hosts Tim and Ollie explore the incredible rock 'n' roll story behind the making of this album.
