I don't think I really knew what people meant when they said writing was "lyrical" until I heard this podcast. .....also wow. Lesbians. Love that.
Amazing story, sound design, atmosphere...weaves a perfect story.
Spooky and this really pulls you in with mystery and crazy love. I binged until my ears bled.
Beautiful writing and voice acting, but I admit I had to read the wiki to figure out what was going on sometimes!
Very well put together. I love the fairy horror concept.
Was really interesting but a little too abstract at times, I found myself getting confused but it always drew me back in
Really cool show and my little autistic heart that's always been fascinated with the fae was hooked
Writing a review to Mabel is like explaining sentimental love poetry to a total stranger. First of all, the podcast is deeply poetic - some words, monologs and alliterations taste like honey and roses on your tongue. For example:Luna was all light and all flowers and all song. Those things are true, but they aren’t... true in exclusivity. They are not true only for themselves. Light can burn, song can madden. Flowers can poison.Mostly it's a fairy-tale-style family drama with sensual lesbian romance but there is so much more to it. I love the atmosphere, sounds and songs the most. However, a few times I dropped it, getting annoyed by repetitions or absence of the general plot. Like a fairy, Mabel often confuses you. At some point, you lose the sense of what's happening at all. If you're after poetry, fairies, songs and lesbian sensual romance, you would like it but take breaks and don't try listening in one go. If the plot is important to you and you want dynamics, listen to something else.
Wasn't crazy about this one. Didn't see how any of the episodes really connected or brought together the bigger picture. Thought it would be creepier too. Stopped after two seasons.
I wanted to love this. It started out so interesting and conceptually was very cool, but it got super complicated and extra weird and I eventually stopped listening.
A very atmospheric podcast about ghosts and faeries - the latter in their original, terrifying form. Very well acted and unlike many other podcasts out there (although occasionally it can be tricky to keep track of what's going on!)
A delightful epistolary love story full of ghosts, faeries, the past, the future, and other nightmares.
I listened to a couple of episodes of this after having it recommended to me. On the plus side, it is very well produced, with the voice acting and sound production at a very high standard. The first episode, with a single voice leaving voice mail messages, sets up a scenario and draws the listener in, creating a great atmosphere.Unfortunately I did not feel that the story lived up to it. Four episodes in, I found I had very little real idea as to what was going on, and have decided not to continue with this one. Having read comments about the show online I gather that this is what people like about it - it is a great show for atmosphere, but the plot is less somewhat convoluted. So, this one doesn't really work for me. Your mileage may vary.
A character-driven story filled with poetic monologues. The folklore and faerie aspect is fantastic, and there's interesting music and sound design at points, building an eerie atmosphere. The female characters are flawed and unapologetically angry at their trauma. The plot can be hard to follow and I think that's intentional (still, it does impede some of my enjoyment of the story). The romance is difficult to root for at a certain point because although the characters love each other, they don't seem to like each other after actually meeting and they argue constantly; this aspect improves later on and there are some lovely romantic moments and incredibly romantic monologues.
This is some of the most beautiful writing I've ever heard. Atmospheric, creepy, but overwhelmingly lovely throughout all of the darkness of the show. And the acting, music, and sound effects come together to create an absolutely gorgeous final product. I'm not exaggerating when I say I think about this show every day of my life.
Absolutely beautiful - this is the best audiodrama I’ve ever listened to and don’t want it to ever end...
How to even begin to describe this rollercoaster of a story?! I devoured this podcast. The style is hard to pinpoint but unique, refreshing and absolutely enthralling. If you like fae horror and *fantastic* sound design, Mabel is right up your alley!
