Welcome back to Part 2 of #8 with Eric Pye as we go into the depths of issues facing the younger generation in the future. The biggest issues are…

The smart ways in which South Korea farms Kelp forests, not only as a food source, but as a method to combat climate change as Kelp helps pull an immense amount of CO2 out of the air. The great importance of reducing our waste as a possible solution in order to reduce our consumption.

The ways red meat and diet effects our health and our body, but how bad the meat industry is and why we should be more aware on how much meat we consume. How Hunting could be an alternative, but that comes with its own issues as its not sustainable for everyone to hunt. The meat industry is hidden from us so we don’t understand the gruesomeness of the entire process. We are OK to over consume and waste meat because the blood isn’t on our hands. Why do we view cats and dogs differently to any other animal out there for meat consumption, is it just because they are domesticated? Is it important for us to cut back on our meat consumption and incorporate more legumes and vegetables in order to be healthier and more sustainable?

The damage Fishing Trawlers have on population in our oceans as we collect a wider range of marine life than just the fish we are wanting, as they cast 20km wide nets and scrape the bottom of our oceans clean.

Could fish farms be a great alternate to allow our oceans to regrow and strengthen their ecosystems?

Imagining a world where fish farms could be so close to towns and cities, allowing fresh fish to be farmed and delivered to local populations. Reducing the stress on natural ecosystems in our oceans, but why don’t we? We can even set up salt water farms to grow and farm salt water fish right near major cities. Increasing our fish farms could be an alternative to reduce red meat consumption which would have a wider effect on CO2 emissions.

Why it’s so important when starting an ecological company, to make sure its step, from the creation to packaging and process chain all needs to align with your ethos of being ecofriendly and sustainable.

The meat industry produces almost 4 times as much CO2 emissions than the motor industry. Yet our focus is so heavily on the future cars being electric. Should our focus be placed more on the meat industry, or will that be a tougher fix as it requires a cultural change to make it happen? Even if we switch to electric cars, what damage to the environment is created in the production of the batteries required, and where does the energy come from in order to charge these cars? We aren’t going to create long term change if we are still using fossil fuels to energize electric cars.

Could we use nuclear energy or is it too risky, coming from two people who know nothing about nuclear power. What about hydrogen energy, using water as an energy source. The crazy technology that was tried out in Japan to use foot traffic (Kinetic energy) on a sidewalk to power the buildings next to them. Our new generations are creating such innovative and new ways of doing things to clean up the mess which older generations have left this planet with, as we have no choice if we want to keep our world alive

With the population number currently at 7.6 billion people, is it a good idea to bring more people into this world? Stacked on top of each other in apartments in condensed cities, are we really meant to be living like that? Maybe bringing children into this world, and teaching them to create a better future, can be a huge benefit and reason for us to bring more people into this world. Not out of fear of over population, but so we can instill change in the next generation for the bett
