Are you ready to have your name featured on sites like Mind Body Green and Well and Good? Or maybe Business Insider?

If you’re wondering how you could possibly make this happen for your business, it is completely attainable for you! Listen to today’s episode on how to pitch yourself to guest post for media outlets.

Here’s what you’ll learn in today’s episode: [4:30] Why You Should Pitch Yourself Right Now

Your business is ready for PR. Most people contributing to media outlets are coaches (yes coaches!). When you are sharing your voice on a media outlet, you are contributing to the conversation. Bringing your expertise to these media outlets is a contribution, it does not mean that you know every single thing about the topic but you can share your unique voice.

Also – not that many people are contributing to publications (only a few percent of people). So by pitching, you are going to stand out among thousands of other people who simply are not yet published because they haven’t tried to pitch. This can bring you recognition & look really impressive for your brand. What’s more – it is a great way to build your audience and email list.

[6:20] The First Step: Know Why You’re Pitching

The great thing about pitching to a publication is that you can put a bio at the bottom (called a shirt tail). This can include your bio and a link to your freebie, Instagram, etc. but not all publications are created equal. If your number one goal is building your list – you want to pitch to publications that include the shirt tail as not all include.

If you are simply looking to add a new logo to your site – then the shirt tail may not mean as much to you so consider this by checking out the article formats of the publications you pitch to before you pitch.

Each article builds on top of each other to create a body of proof for other editors. So you could start with smaller publications and then use those articles to share with bigger publications that you have been published already. This shows editors that you have already passed the test of being published in the media & they are more likely to feature you.

[10:30] Who to Send Your Pitch To & How to Craft Your Pitch Email

Most publications have a submission page for guest posts. This includes things like if the article should be a pitch email or a full article submission. These pages can also share the writing style & topics that the publications look for. Also it often includes the general pitch email to send to. I recommend you always start with the pitch email first because many people manage that inbox vs. pitching an editor directly who can easily ignore your email vs. someone’s

To craft your email pitch – there is a specific format to follow that can capture the attention of editors. Here are a few highlights that should be in every pitch to a media outlet:

  • Show that you read the publication
  • Introduce yourself
  • Share links to where you’ve already been published
  • Include the title of the article
  • Share a short paragraph of what your story is about. Know that this also gives an idea of your writing style so keep this in mind.

With all of these tips in mind – start pitching yourself to guest post today! This is free marketing for your business & can elevate your brand status.
