HON BERNIE RIPOLL

Bernie Ripoll in Government served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer with responsibility for Financial Services, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and other agencies in the Treasury portfolio. Bernie was the member for the federal electorate of Oxley in Queensland for six terms from 1998 to 2016 and brings a deep understanding of the political process. Bernie is an electrician by trade and also has a bachelor of business degree qualification.

In Government, Bernie chaired the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services leading to the delivery of many reforms in particular work that led to the Future of Financial Advice legislation (FoFA) reforms. While in Opposition, Bernie served as Shadow Minister for Financial Services and Superannuation, and Small Business and Sport.

Bernie is a non-executive director with Allianz Australia Retire+, the Financial and Energy Exchange FEX Global and on the panel for the Conexus Financial Superannuation Industry Awards. Bernie holds board and Chair responsibilities with digital advice platform Map My Plan and Biogas energy developer Utilitas Group, and serves on the Board of the Self-Managed Super Funds Association (SMSFA), a director with public affairs firm SAS Group, and his own consulting firm Fresh Advisory with commercial interests focused on the financial services sector.

The SAS Group is a Brisbane based leading Public Affairs and Strategic Communications firm, offering a comprehensive solution to public affairs, government and business relations. Directors include former Federal Ministers and senior figures from industry and media. Consultants include senior communications practitioners with extensive contacts in business, the media and across each of the major political parties, at all levels of government.
