To me it feels very literary: something about the first person narration, the slow delve into Joseph's past and all the family lore, the slight sense of the surreal mingling with some really fun comedy moments - it all feels like a novel that you can't put down. It's a long form, slow burn mystery, and the more time you put into it, the more hooked you'll get.
