RATING
An amazing collection of stories, with wonderful production values.
Took a little while for the premise to grow on me but I'm completely hooked. Fascinating and insightful glimpses into peoples' complex relationships with the night. I especially enjoyed the two-parter on randonneuring, "Proof of Passage" and "The Kindness of Others"
A podcast on the stories of the night. I find so many of these stories interesting and immersive. Often talking about topics I would never think to associate with the night, or of ones I knew a little about, but never realised how extensive their night time roles were.
Great stories with an emphasis on the night and all things nocturnal. Great for a nice quiet listen before bed. Very much recommended!!! Vanessa is a great narrator.
Vanessa Lowe presents stories of the things that happen in the night-time. The episodes are often structured as interviews with people inhabiting a certain aspect of the night time. Nocturne often concentrates on darkness, literal or metaphorical; solitude, and being "other". As a fan of the wee hours myself, I appreciated Nocturne's introspection and how it embraced the liminal nature of nighttime. One to keep as company while working odd hours.
One of my favourite non-fiction podcasts since it started airing. An absolute must-listen.
soothing and entertaining with a hint of mystery just like the night
An easy-listening, comforting exploration of the night and darkness and how we - and the world - adapts to the twilight hours. The host, Vanessa Lowe, has one of the most soothing and pleasurable voices, not only in the world of podcasts but in general. She brings stories to life without sensationalising, preferring to ease readers into the subject and allow them to find their own way. Sound quality is superb - you really feel like you are there in the moment, be it a forest or lakeside or a bustling city. It is a relaxing experience and I find it to be perfect listening before I fall asleep.
