RATING
So, I've listened to this podcast on Spotify until episode 16 and felt the obligation to leave a review for all the hard work that is being put into this podcast.Honestly, there are some grains of salt, which I'll explain later, but I really liked it overall! The host is likable, the concept of changing guests is at least interesting and the theory crafting is undeniably fun!I stumbled over this show because I really liked the first seasons of Game of Thrones and got quite familiar with the books without ever reading them. So I thought reading the book would be kinda boring. (I got the second one already on my nightstand, boy how wrong I was...)To my critique:That's the first issue I have with this show: If you are not familiar with the books you will be spoiled mercilessly and that's quite fine actually. It's a re-read podcast. Nevertheless something you should know before diving in. My second problem is totally subjective and kinda connects with the first one.You clearly see which character the host likes and dislikes, which makes it pretty hard to get an objective picture of a character since they are judged or relieved for stuff that hasn't happened yet.My third critique is also one of the podcast's strengths: Changing co-hosts.You don't get a familiarity with the show since there are always new people with new opinions and ways to see things. This makes it pretty hard for me to get into a comfort-zone whenever I listen, but nevertheless provides a new viewpoint on certain events and characters with every episode.Oh, and the use of f-bombs became more frequent... which is not really my thing.Still, I had lots of fun listening to certain episodes, many of the guests were quite interesting, and as I said before I am a huge fan of theory crafting and emotional chapters really got to me on an emotional level, which is a huge thing! To end the review: Obsidian Nights definitely is worth a shot (as long as you are familiar with the books). One can notice how much passion the host poured into this project and how excited she is at the start of every new chapter. Many minor problems already disappeared over the first sixteen episodes too, so I'll go on following the podcast.Keep on with your good work!
