I love that Effie's response to needing (and not really finding) a supportive community to deal with the unique challenges of parenting a child with a rare genetic syndrome was to create that supportive community for everyone else. I'm glad that this podcast exists, and that I know about it so that I can direct the people who need it most to find it.Once Upon a Gene is educational and emotional. It's a project of love, and it shows.

Once Upon a Gene is a podcast for all; physicians, teachers, therapists, families, and so on. Everything you need to know about rare diseases summed up into intriguing, heartfelt, inspiring podcasts. I started listening to learn more about families' struggles, triumphs and journey with rare disease. I've learned about these topics and so much more. As a master's student, I used content from Effie's podcasts for rationale and background research for my own rare disease project. I suggest this project to my family, friends, classmates and future patients. I almost forgot, my favorite part of the podcast is hearing Ford's adorable laugh.

How can you not love Once Upon a Gene? Host Effie Parks introduces us to so many exceptional people with expertise and life experience who serve to inspire and educate the rare community. Effie lets her guests shine with her positive presence that never dominates nor shies away from sharing a full range of emotions. Her podcasts are a wonderful listen and a great contribution to our rare community.

My son with special needs is 16 years old but we only got a diagnosis for him 2 years ago. I've been listening to Effie's podcast since that diagnosis when she interviewed someone who had a son just like mine! Since then, I have tuned in to Once Upon a Gene to be both educated and encouraged. This podcast covers everything this mother needs while navigating the special needs world.

Effie Parks simply nails it with her Once Upon a Gene podcast! This is a MUST LISTEN for anyone in the rare disease world. As a parent to a child with a rare disease (SCN1A gene mutation/ Dravet syndrome), I feel heard and validated when listening to these different interviews. Thank you for bringing awareness to so many different rare diseases and organizations. You help us feel less isolated.
