Julie Moe is the founder and CEO of Zooby Media and The Gutsy Mama Project, where she teaches moms how to ditch their 9-5s and their mommy-guilt, by learning how to build Squarespace Design businesses of their own. She started her company Zooby Media in 2015 because when she looked around, the company she wanted to work for didn't exist. But she had no idea how difficult it would be to start your own business. She had bought into the idea of "the hustle." She worked hard, but not very smart. Then in 2017, when she had her baby, #thehustle couldn't work for me anymore. 60 hour weeks didn't work anymore. So she tried being a stay at home mom, because she thought that was my only other option. But that didn't work for her either. She had never realized how much of her personal identity was wrapped up in her career. So she felt like a double failure, because she couldn't hack it as an entrepreneur or a SAHM.
She was rescued when a friend of a friend asked me to design a couple of Squarespace websites for him. She had never done it before, but she jumped at the opportunity, because she needed the money and the brain stimulation. Without realizing it, Julie had found a way to pivot her business so that she could be the mom she wanted to be, while still earning a living.
The Gutsy Mama Project is all about helping moms do the same thing.
Lessons Julie has learned from being a momboss:
1. You have to put yourself out there.
2. Mommy-guilt is an unfair lie.
3. Sometime you have to ask for help.
4. You have to get really clear on your goals.
