Today, Scotty welcomes the host of Going Deep with Aaron onto Podcast Bay. Aaron got started with podcasting after he realize he was learning more from the podcasts he was listening to on the way to school, than he was actually learning in college. He realized he would go about things so much differently than the hosts he was listening to in order to take conversations so much deeper.

-Trash-

Scotty starts off by bringing his own trash to the table so that Aaron can bring some perspective to it. Scott has watched a lot of podcasters hold off on releasing their first episode, and he wants to know why Aaron did so. Aaron said that it came down to a taste thing. He knew what would make his podcast sound good, and those first episodes didn't represent what he wanted to release. He brings up social capital, and how limited it is when we first start something, so in order to make the most of it, you need to make sure the quality is there.

Aaron talks about removing ego from the equation, and how a podcaster should be getting guests on for the service of their listenership, and not just the size of the platform the guest has, or the gains the guest can bring them. He explains that a lot of podcast hosts have a self-serving nature about them that turns him off, and that he much prefers when someone can pull a unique and tangible takeaway, or a solid reason for having someone on the show in order to bring the greatest benefit to the listener. He also shares a story of having someone on his show, and then meeting them later and they had no recollection of him at all, and that changed how he handled booking guests completely.

He brings up podcasters chasing the same guests, or sticking to the safe questions, and how boring that can become. He talks about the fact that as an interviewer, we have the opportunity to bring our guests somewhere they've never had the chance to go before in the media. Being able to ask questions, and recognize when the guest has a spark, or momentum surrounding a certain topic worth exploring is part of what makes a great host.

Lack of preparation is one of Aaron's biggest pet peeves, which is hilarious because Scotty has one of the most relaxed preparation styles on the planet. He and Scott have a laugh about how deflating it is to get on a show, and have someone read your bio as an introduction. They also chat about an inflated ego can lead to lack-luster results.

-Treasure-

Aaron drops tons of treasure throughout the episode regarding what makes a good host, and how to differentiate yourself, and your show from all of the other noise out there in the Podcast universe. The trash section was generously peppered with lessons, ideas and concepts to go back and lean from.

Scotty asks Aaron about the Going Deep Summit that came about as a result of his show. Aaron went to a variety of different events and summits, and paid attention to how they structured, marketed and profited from them.

-Tricks-

Aaron learned a thing or 2 from playing Ultimate Frisbee. One of those things has completely translated to everything he does in his life: Show up, put in the work, do the thankless tasks and do what others aren't willing to do.

Aiming high and asking for help are two other tricks that Aaron feels more podcasters could use to their advantage. Having a dream and working toward it is so valuable, and it gives a person so much drive and purpose. Also, people love to help one another, and so asking people to spread the word, or help you out with something you don't know how to do can make a massive difference to not only you, but the relationships people have with you and your brand.
