I'm really torn when it comes to this podcast, honestly. There's clearly some great talent involved: the songs are super catchy, it frequently gets a laugh out of me, and I have found myself listening to all the episodes and wondering what's going to happen with the Benjamins and their beautiful dog Ashton next. Bonus points are definitely to be had for featuring Ashton, the most beautiful of dogs, as a central character and plot device, too. I love a good musical, and this hits all those notes (pun very much intended). However, there are a couple of things in this that keep me from fully enjoying it. As the primary example: I'm not comfortable with the primary villain being simply referred to as "The Homeless Man" & so many jokes being centered on his homelessness; the portrayal of that character (and his minions) very much reinforces all of the negative stereotypes regarding those who are homeless. If it were balanced with a really clear acknowledgement that this is for sure a parody of what people think of the homeless, that would go a long way: as is, there are moments that veer into the realm of being offensive rather than funny for me.In short, I *want* to love this podcast, but there are moments where the portrayal of certain characters relies on offensive stereotypes in a way that feels problematic. The verdict's out on my end as to whether I'm being too sensitive, since it *is* a comedy that makes fun of stereotypes in a lot of ways, though.I'm torn between 3 & 4 stars here, so I'm giving 4, since I really do find the musical numbers largely to be incredibly catchy and well-done. I'm really curious what others think of this one!
