This is a

0:02

CBC Podcast.

0:08

You alright? Yeah. Okay.

0:14

When she was missing, my mum and

0:16

I would always pray that we'd find her before the snow

0:18

fell. Because

0:20

if the snow would fall, then she'd be hidden

0:22

for another season. Season. From

0:26

CBC Podcasts, I'm David Ridgen,

0:29

and this is Someone Knows Something, Season 8.

0:33

We're here. Oh. She

0:36

was in there? Yeah. Gonna

0:40

put some tobacco down.

0:47

And come in peace and respect and

0:49

honour. In

0:54

late 2007, the remains

0:56

of a young woman from the Kaska Nation

0:58

were discovered in the Yukon woods. Her

1:01

name was Angel Karlik.

1:04

I was always close with my sister. She

1:06

turned 18, she tried to get me out of the group home.

1:09

But then I was pretty much close to when she went missing.

1:14

Angel had been working at the local youth

1:16

centre and was about to finish high school.

1:18

She was just excited. Happy. Finally

1:21

going to graduate. That

1:23

was her favourite moment. She was

1:25

just dancing around, I'm going to graduate soon.

1:29

I love Angel. She looked

1:31

so gorgeous last time I saw her. But

1:34

shortly after a series of graduation

1:36

celebrations, she disappeared.

1:40

I always just loosely look back and wish that

1:42

I didn't let her go alone.

1:42

She needed to go downtown

1:45

to get a change of clothes or something, and

1:47

she was going to come back up for supper. She

1:51

never showed up, she never came.

1:53

Police

1:55

investigations have gone seemingly nowhere,

1:57

leaving Angel's case unsolved. for

2:00

over 15 years. Oh,

2:03

it comes and goes, but I

2:05

always think about, I want to know what really

2:07

happened and why.

2:09

So I travel north

2:11

to the Yukon to join Angel's loved

2:14

ones in their search for answers to

2:16

try to understand what happened and

2:19

who was involved.

2:20

I might be happy to see

2:22

this person and they have this

2:25

dark secret and I

2:27

honestly believe that somebody in this

2:29

community knows and they're just choosing

2:32

not to say and letting Angel's

2:34

family, including myself, be tortured. I

2:37

had an experience during the time Angel

2:40

was missing and it always sort

2:42

of haunted me.

2:43

Whoever did this didn't expect she would ever be

2:46

found again. That is my belief

2:48

as well. So after that was

2:50

said, I felt like, wow, like

2:53

I might have some really serious information

2:55

towards this case. I

2:58

heard a girl screaming like

3:00

they're thrashing around.

3:04

Essentially, it's a pretty big risk to come forward

3:06

with the information that I have. To

3:09

this day, I'm scared of him. Like

3:12

the look in his eyes was like

3:15

there wasn't even a soul there.

3:17

Hello? Hello?

3:23

Oh, here we go. I'm

3:26

David Rittgen and this is Someone Knows Something, Season 8, The Angel

3:29

Carlet Case. Now where was I going with

3:31

this? Can you tell me you didn't do anything

3:33

to Angel then? Yourself? Coming

3:36

soon. Find

3:39

us everywhere you get your podcasts

3:41

and on the CBC Listen app. Because there's

3:43

not a day that goes by that you

3:45

don't think of her.
