Community, chosen-family, the magic of relationships; so much comes to mind when I think about Starfall, which has the kind of music & writing that transports you to a different world... no, I beg of you close your eyes when you listen to this show !! & please, join me in devouring every new episode immediately !!!
Ensamble casts done right. Good world building, intriguing characters and just so sweet.
This show follows a warrior as she searches for her purpose and joins up with an acting troupe. This first season is mostly lighthearted in nature with some more emotional moments. Episodes follow the main character as she navigates social situations she doesn't understand, appreciates food, and makes friends within the group. Developing friendships/found family and community is a major focus as well as adapting to a supportive environment after experiencing trauma. Characters have distinct voices. The worldbuilding and integration of the magic system is interesting. I look forward to how the story and characters will develop.
Honestly, this is the sort of fantasy show that feels grounded because there are emotions that you likely feel or circumstances that mirror some of your own. I mean, come on, this is about community, right? We all have feelings about that (maybe a certain... *cough* cough* situation helps with that). Also theatre. And the... challenges that come with that. In addition, the fantastical elements are both distinct and well used. This show is genuinely entertaining.
You ever listen to a show where it just sounds like everyone involved, from the actors to the writer to the sound designers, is having the time of their life? That's Starfall. It takes place in a sweeping magical empire, but it centers around the antics of a theatre troupe - and you can tell this show is made with love. Love of fantasy, love of theatre kids, all of it. Give it a listen! You're sure to be grinning.
This show is so delightful! I love all of the characters (especially Leona), and the world is unlike any I've seen for a fantasy setting. The magic system is unique without being overcomplicated, and it makes my inner theatre kid very happy to see a theatre troupe as the center of this story. I can't wait for more!
