Paul Laurence Dunbar was an author, playwright, and poet who wrote a number of short stories and novels. He is noted as one of the first influential Black poets in American Literature. 'The Sport of the Gods' written in 1902, centers on a family that is forced to leave the South and subsequently falls apart amid the realities of Northern inner-city life.
