I sat down recently with a friend who visited her homeland of Sri Lanka. During the conversation we touched on her experiences as a second generation Tamil Canadian and the current state of the country in light of the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings. In the latter half of our conversation we discussed the civil wars ramifications in the lives of Tamil civilians.
Part 1 highlights: The beauty of the island. We touched on: the UNESCO World heritage sites, wildlife, cuisine, and lifestyle/culture on the island. However we also spoke of the tragedy of the recent Easter Sunday Bombings and its impact on the Island.
In Part 2 we had a discussion about the realities of the Sri Lankan civil war and its lasting implications on Tamil civilians.
Today marks the 11th year anniversary of Mullivaikkal massacre. Also known as Tamil genocide remembrance day. This episode commemorates the thousands of Tamil civilians lost during the final phase of the civil war.
We hope to raise awareness to the oppression minorities face at the hands of political and military powers.
