Today I am with the CEO of Get Over Yourself Career and LifeCoaching, Inc., the beautiful Tajuana Ross. Her business started about a year ago and she came up with the name as it was one of the phrases that she uses often and she believes that coaching provides a way for clients to move forward. As a Certified Professional Life Coach, she now gets to spend her time helping to reverse the course for clients on that path. Here are some highlights from our conversation:

-        She says she was “forced” to learn LinkedIn initially because there came a time on her career when she wasn’t landing any jobs and she got an advice that she needed to be on LinkedIn. She wasn’t very proficient at first, but because of her persistence in wanting to learn about how LinkedIn works, she was able to master on how to use it for her business.

-        She left corporate America in 2014 and she started her coaching business thereafter. At that time, she thought that she needed to have a full-time job to keep her business afloat. She then realized that it wasn’t feasible for her to have a full-time job and have a business at the same time. This is where she transitioned to becoming a full-time entrepreneur.

-        She came from 9 years in her corporate career and to move from that long relationship with that company and move into the CEO position of her own business means she took everything with her and she leveraged LinkedIn because it was something she discovered was necessary for her to transition from corporate to finding a new opportunity. LinkedIn was one of the tools she used for helping people find their new jobs or careers.

-        You have to get on LinkedIn – you have to be active on it. Get strategic in getting yourself visible on LinkedIn and monetize your presence on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is more than a place to find a job – it can be a place where a new business owner can build their brand. It is a place for a new coach to build a client base. It can be a place where you can find other coaches to partner with.

-        Being exposed to sales and every silo in corporate America thought Tajuana what she was right now, and she realized that even though this is your own business, you can’t do everything yourself. No matter how knowledgeable you are, you can’t do everything yourself.

-        At first she struggled with pricing. A lot of brand new coaches price themselves too low – and she was one of them. She thought that if she had a lower price, she would get more clients and she also thought she wasn’t qualified to have a higher pricing. She was also comparing herself to other celebrity coaches and she felt that she wasn’t at that level to demand that price. One of her coaches helped her get around this mindset by making her realize that she was not new in her field of expertise and that was worth raising her price. What people are paying is the quality and experience and that is why they are willing to pay more.
