Gilmore Girls was a Comedy-Drama that originally aired on The WB and remained a staple there until it transitioned to The CW. It lasted seven seasons (just like The West Wing) and featured a cast full of people who would go on to become household names. Melissa McCarthy, most recently known for Ghostbusters, and Lauren Graham, most recently on Parenthood, put on amazing performances that will be tough to match in our lifetime. Gilmore Girls is getting another series, starring the original cast, on Netflix starting in November 2016.

The pilot of Gilmore Girls starts with Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Gramham) begging a resistant Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) for some coffee. Lorelai "Rory" Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) eventually shows up to have some coffee with her mother. They both get hit on by the same guy who is, in first pop culture reference, compared to Jack Kerouac. Other references throughout the show include: Eminem, Macy Gray, Florence Griffith Joyner, RuPaul, Britney Spears, Officer Krupke of West Side Story, The Menendez Brothers, Rosemary's Baby, Oprah, Melville and his book Moby-Dick; or, The Whale, Mommie Dearest, Madame Bovary, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Stephen King, and The Little Match Girl.

The plot revolves around Rory getting into Chilton, a private school, and Lorelai having to ask her very rich parents, Emily (Kelly Bishop) and Richard (Edward Herrmann), for help. We are introduced to Rory's best/only friend Lane Kim (Keiko Agena) as well as Lorelai's best friend, and fabulous chef, Sookie St. James (Melissa McCarthy). Emily and Richard agree to give Lorelai the money under the condition that they have family dinner every Friday and a phone call once a week. While this is happening Rory meets a cute boy named Dean (Jared Padalecki) who she refers to Miss Patty (Liz Torres) for a job. Rory likes Dean and this attraction makes her question going to Chilton which serves as a point of contention between the Lorelais Gilmore.
