CLOSE WEEK 1: - CONFIDENCEScripture: Genesis 12:2-3; Genesis 15:6Bottom Line: God is always drawing us in His direction.INTRODUCTIONI had two best friends in elementary school. I thought we’d be friends for the rest of our lives, as we got older we eventually started to grow apart.TENSIONSometimes our relationship with God feels the same way. We’re afraid to be really be close to God because:• He’ll get mad at us or say something we don’t want to hear.• He’ll ask us to be miserable or give up the things we like.TRUTHHave you ever heard of a guy named Abraham? He’s a pretty big deal and in the early days, He was called Abram.God doesn’t just give Abram commands. He opens with instructions and then keeps on talking.Over and over, God walked with Abram and made promises and kept them. He was drawing Abram closer to Him over time. The story of Abram shows us a God who has always valued being close to His people. Many years later, God sent Jesus for the same reason—to have a close relationship with us.Scripture Main Application PointAPPLICATIONWhen we believe God wants to be close to us, it changes things. How would your life look different if, like Abram, you trusted what God said was true? When we approach life with the understanding that God has done everything possible to be close to us, we’ll see things differently. The truth is: God is always drawing us in His direction.Bottom Line: God is always drawing us in His direction.APPROACHDraw close to Him—ask Him to help you understand just how much He wants to be close to you.
Question from the stage: Who are some people that you are close to?
