This a history and current affairs show about the Soviet Union and the countries that were once parts of it. It mostly focuses on geopolitics past and present, but there are some social history episodes in the mix too, which are just as fascinating.
What sets it apart from many independent English-language history podcasts is its perspective. Kristaps Andrejsons, the creator of the show, is from Latvia and is fluent in Russian (in addition to Latvian and English), meaning that he has access to primary sources in their original language. As a host, he is acerbic, passionate, and always frank about his views on events and personalities.
Not what you'd call an easy listen (it often resembles Dan Carlin's Hardcore History in terms of tough subject matter), but entirely worth checking out if you have an interest in this part of the world, the Cold War, and how its legacy influences contemporary events.
