The Great Chameleon War: a chaotic, wonderful trip into a dystopian future world ruled by “paleo-mythic” lizards.Justin Hellstrom captures the sweeping scale of this universe, somehow calm and full of havoc with every word they speak. The sound design is extremely well executed, with music and foley coming together to create an illustrative soundscape. The show describes itself as ‘surreal’, and that’s fairly apt.I loved this episode’s moments of hyperfocus. Justin’s intimate descriptions of everything from a plastic pterodactyl toy to the scales on the flank of a pyromancer chameleon as it shifts colours were stellar. It was so stunning to sit back and allow the audio to transport me.If you are a fan of early Night Vale or The Big Loop, you’ll like this show.
