I’ve found that public speaking generally falls into 3 different categories.

You either fear public speaking, or you don’t mind doing it when you have to, or you absolutely love public speaking.

Another interesting statistic that I’ve found, is that over 80% of people fear public speaking.

Given the one-sided value of that number, I’m willing to bet that if you’re reading this, you are one of those people that have a fear of public speaking? Am I right?

Well there’s good news and there’s bad news.

First the bad news. Unfortunately, public speaking is one of those skills that every person needs if they are going to have a fulfilling successful life. This applies to all aspects of life from your career, to your relationships, to the friends you make.

How does public speaking fit into everyday life though? Well take a look around at the people in your company who are succeeding and working their way up the ladder? They are the ones who can communicate well with clients, their boss, and other work colleagues. They are the ones who go about their day in a confident manner, and know how to ask for what they want.

Take a look at people that are in solid relationships. They are the ones who can communicate well with people. Although they don’t actually stand up and make a speech to their partner, at some stage they had to initiate contact with them and arrange to go out on a date with them didn’t they?

The bottom line is that public speaking plays a huge part of everyday life. If you fail to master this skill, you will find yourself living a life that is unfulfilling. You will always feel like you are under achieving and can do better.

So I mentioned that there was good news? Yes there is.

The good news, is that public speaking is a skill that can easily be taught. I know people who have gone from being shy and timid, to mastering the art of speaking to an audience of 1,000 people in a number of days.

Like any good skill in life worth having, public speaking is one of those subjects that you can find in a course and learn.

So what should you do from here if you want to overcome your fear of public speaking and become an expert on the subject?Well the good news is that Public Speaking is a skill that can be taught to anyone. If you just apply the basic steps that experts use, there is no reason why you can’t master this skill.
