Welcome to The Parents' Way Podcast.
Angela and I are talking this week about mental health, and in particular about the mental health of teenage girls.
A recent report by the CDC highlights the ways in which social media in particular may be behind a sharp increase in depressing and suicide among teenage girls.
In this episode, Angela and I talk about the experience of “feeling felt,” the experience that someone else feels what you are feeling in themselves. We discuss what the experience of “feeling felt” is and why it is protective for our children’s mental health.
As parents, we can give children that experience of “feeling felt” and we emphasize that we can only do this when we ourselves have the experience of being deeply connected. It is very difficult to help our children to feel felt when we ourselves are isolated.
Neither Angela nor I are clinically trained mental health professionals and if you need immediate advice on the mental health of your children, please seek professional advice.
