Joshua Crum, known more prominently as J. Crum (@jcrummusic), joins the Melanated Mindset podcast to discuss Christianity and its impact on his upbringing and the Black community. He is also the creator of our logo and theme song!
In this episode, J. Crum describes his religious upbringing involving a Black “holiness” church, a white evangelical bible college, a church plant he started, and his current relationship with Christianity. We discuss the impact that Christianity had on our mental health, why Christianity is so prevalent in the Black community, and how the Church has brought both hope and harm to the Black community. J. Crum also tells us how he reconciles the God of the Bible with the God of those who have been most complicit with racial inequality. We use quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King and Frederick Douglas in this episode.
