Season One of The Mocha Memoirs is here! This podcast was created to share poetry written by herself and other young, talented poets. I delve into the true realities of life as a young, African American adult in the world today. I reveals the joys and pains that are faced in our community. The hope is that this podcast can serve as a space where you can feel heard, understood and encouraged.
In this episode, I will discuss the topic of colorism. I share a poem I wrote, called Color of My Soul, which describes the feelings of a dark skinned women in this current time. I talk about the long standing history of colorism in the United States and what truly brought this invisible division. I share how we can encourage and empower each other by letting go of these played out narratives in efforts to create a more calm and loving culture for the next generation.
