It’s that time of year when we tend to set new goals for the new calendar year. Even though it is mid-year in the academic year, this is a good time to reflect, refresh, and restart those resolutions through goal setting.

We just went through Michael Hyatt’s 5-day program “Best Year Ever.” Backed by current highly credible research, this took us through three phases of goal setting that reviews the past, considers the present, and looks to the future. You can check it out at https://michaelhyatt.com.

The first phase, a review of the past, reminded Jim of what the military calls an After-Action Review:

“Before you can set goals and move forward, you need to review what you’ve done and make adjustments”

This led to a connection to Kolb Learning Theory (Do, Think, Reflect, Adapt). Just as we want our students to do, we need to learn from our missteps (not “mistakes” as Beth insists).

Listen in as Jim and Beth discuss how Michael Hyatt takes terms we may have heard before to the next level. He takes the S.M.A.R.T. goals, updates the acronyms and makes them S.M.A.R.T.E.R. Setting specific, measurable, and actionable items is always good advice. Now, take a risk and reach for the next level.
