The 2018 Federal Budget set aside $33.8 million to boost crisis support group Lifeline's 24-hour telephone service to address what some have described as a ‘mental health crisis’. However, what has been left out is any sort of targeted plan towards dealing with a different health crisis; the rates of depression, self-harm and suicide among transgender Australians, particularly young trans people. The numbers are shocking, but the solutions to the subsequent problems are not as complex as you might think.
