Gun control has been a thorn in the side for almost every pro second amendment advocate for a extended period of time.  However, the origins of gun control go back a lot farther than most of us realize and were applied in a very specific and discriminatory fashion.  In this episode we’ve been joined by Devin Perkins from the Trench Work Chronicles to discuss the history of gun control, how its being applied now, and what we can all do to help protect the second amendment for everyone.

Topics and Questions Addressed in this Episode

Let’s start off with the basic question. A lot of people new to guns, think the attack on the second amendment is fairly recent, but the history of gun control has a much earlier and darker history.  Can you kick things off by explaining the origins?

During this era, what were some of the most common gun control laws put on the books?

Even after the era of slavery, when black people were “guaranteed” the same second amendment rights as white people, black people still faced challenges with gun ownership. Can you elaborate a little on what these challenges were?

Why are people so scared to see black people with guns and what are some of the things that the pro-2A community (black and white) do to help eliminate this fear?

Do you see any correlation between the gun controls laws established back then and the gun control laws being established now?

Another thing that people get confused about is the general shift in gun ownership. Back in the day a lot of homes had guns in them, now not so much and the majority of pro-2A point to this shift in culture as a reason for more gun control laws being passed.  Do you think disarming black people in the past created a sense of “security” among the population that added to this mindset?
