Here we are at the IDS center. The tallest sky scrapper in the entire state. This building used to be 775.5 feet tall until a garage for window washing equipment was added on top of the building. Now the building stands at a dizzying height of 795.5 feet. If you were to include the communication spires at the top of the building, it would add up to 910 feet in total, making it the highest point in the entire Minneapolis.This however is being challenged by the Capella Tower. In fact a lot of people are arguing about this matter. It even involved an entire organization of people who mediates disputes regarding cases like this. The Organization is known as the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. You got that right. There is an entire council working out which buildings are taller than the other.Well anyway, the Capella Tower was originally constructed, according to its designer, with a height of 774 feet. Then he added that the building required to have ventilation ducts and installed them, which added a total of 2 feet. With the ventilation ducts included the entire building would now be 776 feet which is 6 inches taller than the original height of the IDS center.The owners of IDS reputed this by stating that their building is taller at 795.5 which includes the window washing equipment’s garage. However the engineers of the Capella Towers countered the IDS’s claims by stating that the garage cannot be included in the building’s height as it is not an integral part of the building.Despite the controversy between the two skyscrapers, the owners of the Capella Towers are hesitant to claim the title of having the tallest building in Minneapolis even if their engineers claim it to be.
