TRIGGER WARNING This episode contains discussion of childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence against women and children.

Sexual abuse of women and children and domestic violence is a regular occurrence for millions, and yet very few of us want to admit its prevalence. Host Jennie Guay is joined by Gender Relations and sexual abuse and domestic violence expert and advocate Lula Dembele. In this episode, backed by extensive research and statistics, we delve into just how prevalent it is. We discuss what it’s rooted in, who's perpetrating it and why it’s so difficult to leave and break the cycle. We have very real and honest dialogue about the reasons boys and men are so comfortable perpetrating sex abuse and domestic violence (and yes, boys and men are statistically the abusers) and why often times women cover it up, stay quiet and, in some cases, protect their abusers. We tackle the systemic and institutional misogyny that keeps women and children quiet and men in the driver seat systemically perpetuating the abuse. It’s a hard but honest conversation; one that we all need to be having more often. Because when we stay silent, we stay stuck. And when we stay stuck, nothing changes. And this has to change.
