These are the conversations I *wish* I had heard a year and a half ago when I was starting out. Carin and Jaimie are willing to engage with the taboo, push back against some of the conventional wisdom, and promote transparency on every level. You can tell they are operating from an abundance mindset, and honestly want to help everyone succeed in a way that’s right for them.
There’s a lot of one-size-fits-all advice out there that I really took to heart, and in retrospect a lot of the information I consumed early on actually held me back considerably. Things like, “You never get a second chance at a first impression,” or that belonging to certain casting sites will get you immediately blacklisted by agents and CD’s, or that you should never, under any circumstances, produce your own demo or you will undermine your credibility and ruin your career FOREVER ⚠️ ☠️☠️☠️. I think most of this conventional wisdom comes from a good place (at least consciously), but a lot of it is outdated in an industry that has completely transformed since 2020. And frankly, on some level (hopefully a subconscious one) a lot of the “experts” are basically gatekeeping with the inflexible, black & white advice, and anxiety provoking warnings they give to new VOs. For many of us, following the prescribed “right path” to success, just isn’t an accessible option, because you know…money is a thing.
Carin and Jamie get that! They present things in a way recognizes the many different paths to success, without judgment. They share their own experiences transparently, with a specificity that I haven’t found anywhere else. They are also possibly two of the kindest and most gracious humans on earth. And bonus: they’re entertaining too!
